What does Puro mean?

When we were trying to name our company, Kevin and I had some funky names. Our first name was “Los Brochachos” and play on the word muchachos and bros since we had developed a strong friendship. However, we realized this probably would not be a good name and was confirmed when we went to an entrepreneur bootcamp at Geekdom. We honestly didn’t know what to call our product and company.

We brainstormed about a name, even said a prayer. We knew we wanted to have a name that symbolized our product, our people, and our community. Kevin was born and raised in San Antonio and is a product of the West Side. I wasn’t born here but my love for this city runs deep as it is really the only place I have called home. What screams San Antonio? Fiesta, Tejano music, Fajitas, the Rodeo, a Spurs championship run. All of those events can conjure up emotions and connect us all in the city. Then it dawned on us…PURO!! Puro San Antonio and Puro Tepache!!

Puro means something so foundational to us in San Antonio. It’s how we describe a good taco, a killer cumbia, or an amazing bbq/quince! But it also means pure in Spanish. That’s the type of product we always wanted to make - a pure product. One that was Puro to our people, puro to our culture, and a puro clean/wholesome product that can be beneficial. We want our Tepache to make people proud!! That’s its a testament to the people of our community and a testament to our shared cultural spirit.

When you drink Puro Tepache, just know that we pour our soul into each cup. We think about the millions of Latinos that are grinding daily to make a living, to raise their families, and to impress upon our gente the values from which we are derived. That’s what Puro means to us!
