As the co-owner of Puro Tepache, a Hispanic-owned business in the heart of San Antonio, Texas, I'm proud to share a deep connection with a sport that has long been a source of pride and inspiration in the Mexican community: boxing. From legendary fighters to rising stars, boxing has always held a special place in our hearts, embodying resilience, strength, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Although boxing is enjoyed across the world, experts will often point out that Mexican boxers have a unique fighting style and the boxing culture has impacted the sport for decades.
Boxing: A Cultural Cornerstone
Boxing is more than just a sport in Mexico; it’s a cultural phenomenon. Legendary fighters like Salvador Sanchez, Julio Cesar Chavez (JCC), and Juan Manuel Marquez, known as "El Dinamita," have not only achieved greatness in the ring but have also become symbols of hope and perseverance for many. These icons have shown us that with determination and hard work, we can overcome any obstacle.
Salvador Sanchez was a prodigy whose career, although tragically cut short, left an indelible mark on the boxing world. JCC, with his relentless fighting style and incredible career, remains a national hero. Juan Manuel Marquez, with his tactical brilliance and epic battles, epitomizes the spirit of a true warrior. These fighters have inspired countless young boxers, including those in our own community.

Hector Tanajara is a rising star with an impressive professional record of 21 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw. Hailing from the west side of San Antonio and an alumnus of Holmes High School, Hector’s journey reflects the spirit of our community. Currently training under the renowned Robert Garcia Boxing Academy and at Boxing’s Finest off of Donaldson, Hector embodies the hard work and commitment we admire.
We first noticed Hector not just for his skills in the ring but for his dedication to giving back to the community. His commitment to uplifting those around him aligns perfectly with our values at Puro Tepache. We believe in supporting local talent and fostering a sense of pride and unity within our community.
