The beverage of San Antonio

Any time I meet someone unfamiliar with San Antonio, I get giddy about describing our wonderful city. Sure people have heard about the Alamo and thanks to their 20 year run during the Tim Duncan era, people associate the Spurs with our city. That spotlight was once again focused when we got the right to draft Wemby. Good times are near again and I can’t wait to get back to the promised land again. But when I begin to describe the city to people who haven’t been here or have only come for a short stay, I start to talk about the culture in San Antonio.

One quick glance at our city and you know immediately that the city has a strong Hispanic influence - mostly Mexican. It won’t be hard to find Mexican flags next to US flags on a truck or on a house. Our Mexican roots run deep in this city and it’s really celebrated in various ways: in our food (Tex-Mex), our celebrations (fiesta), and our people.

However, people are surprised to also find out how we are more than that. The area in and around San Antonio have other cultural influences such as German, Czech, African-American, and more. We love our annual stock show and rodeo (going on as I write this blog), have strong communities with European history such as New Braunfels and Castroville, and so much more.

Where am I going with this? As we embark on introducing our Tepache to the city, I can’t help but day dream about the possibility of people falling in love with our beverage in the same way people fall in love with our city. At first, they’ll see just another probiotic drink. People may think “oh I’ve tried that before”. But as they taste it, my hope is that they instantly realize this is now ordinary drink. First, it doesn’t taste like other health drinks. The spice blend mixed with the pineapple creates a symphony of flavors that instantly coalesces into a unique flavor. The champagne-like carbonation makes a fun sensation on their pallet and they fall in love with Tepache as I did when I was a little boy.

Our vision for Puro Tepache is to grow this beverage and introduce a new possibility to everyone. One where a healthy drink doesn’t have to taste healthy. One that celebrates the culture and history from where are derived. Our dream is that as San Antonio grows into the worldly city it is destined to become, Puro Tepache grows in the same way. As Puro Tepache becomes “The beverage of San Antonio” he hope you are as proud of it as I am about our city!
